During a new interview he gave to Loudwire, Dave Mustaine was asked to name his favorite albums other than Megadeth’s. The musician stated that they often belong to the Beatles or Led Zeppelin, but his preference may change from time to time.
It has been six years since Megadeth released their latest album named ‘Dystopia’ on January 22, 2016. Since then, their fans have been patiently waiting for them to put out another record, and their wishes will come true as Megadeth will release their upcoming album ‘The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead!’ on July 8, 2022.
Before these records, Dave Mustaine released fifteen studio albums with Megadeth. As the band’s frontman, each one holds a special place in his heart, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a favorite. In fact, he named the band’s album he likes the most during a recent interview. According to Mustaine, ‘Rust in Peace’ and ‘Dystopia’ are his two favorite records of the band.
On top of naming his band’s favorite albums, the Megadeth founder was asked about the record he likes the most that don’t belong to his group. As a musician who is highly influenced by the rock bands of the ’70s and ’80s, he cited there’s a tough competition between Led Zeppelin’s ‘Led Zeppelin IV‘ and the Beatles’ ‘White Album.‘
After emphasizing that his idea of a favorite album is unstable, Mustaine claimed that it changes according to his mood sometimes as it can be Elton John’s ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ as well. When he’s in the creative stage of his life, the Megadeth frontman may like an Al Green or Marvin Gaye album the most.

“You know, it’s funny. It changes a little bit from time to time. Not too much, but a lot of times, it’s The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. So it’s always constantly rotating between ‘Led Zeppelin IV’ or the ‘White Album.’ And sometimes it will be Elton John’s ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,’ which is another amazing album chock-full of hits. And then if I’m really, really, really feeling my creative oats, because I grew up with my sisters, we’ll dig into Al Green and Marvin Gaye some stuff like that.”
