After Tool re-recorded their single ‘Opiate’ from 1991 under the name ‘Opiate2,’ they recently announced its video release. They shared the preview on their official Instagram account and informed the fans that the short film could be found via Blu-ray.
Maynard James Keenan’s band Tool has not released exclusive videos for fifteen years. Still, their latest music video for ‘Vicarious’ from their 2006 album ‘10,000 Days’ was released a few years ago. It was an alien-themed, psychedelic animated video resembling their new release. ‘Vicarious’ was uploaded to YouTube in 2019 and watched by over 17 million people since then.
Two years after Tool released ‘Fear Inoculum,’ Danny Carey announced that they are already working on a new album. Even though the established sound of their last album satisfied the band’s fans, it was disappointing that they did not produce any videos. However, they let their fans know that they are in the process of productivity, which recently gifted the music world a new Blu-ray housed in a 46-paged art book.
Tool’s ‘Opiate2’ preview, which represents the band’s artistic style, heralds the band’s first video in 15 years. They stated that they celebrate the 30th anniversary of ‘Opiate’ with this recreated version of the song and an animated short film. Along with the preview they posted on Instagram, they also shared a three-minute excerpt of the video on YouTube.
The caption of their Instagram post follows:
“Tool’s ‘Opiate2’ short film available now via Blu-ray; band’s first video in 15 years previewed in newly released clip. Tool’s first video in 15 years, ‘Opiate2,’ arrives today via RCA Records. A three-minute preview of the Blu-ray short film is viewable via the link in our bio.
‘Opiate2’ is a re-imagined and extended version of Tool’s 1992 single ‘Opiate,’ with both the song and video marking the 30th anniversary of the EP of the same name’s release. Housed in a 46-page art book with behind-the-scenes and making-of photos, the ‘Opiate2’ Blu-ray also includes interviews and insights from special guests.
Visual artist Dominic Hailstone worked with Adam Jones on the 10-plus minute film. The clip continues Tool’s knack for merging the aural and visual worlds, creating an all-encompassing experience for the listener that has been a hallmark of the outfit since their inception. Hailstone and Jones also collaborated on the filmed pieces featured on the current Fear Inoculum tour.”
