Napalm Death vocalist Barney Greenway recently spoke with Kevin Diers from Metal Shop on 99.9 KISW about everything from their new EP to the punk bands that influenced him over the years. Greenway cited Siege as one of the biggest influences on Napalm Death, as well as bands like Systematic Death and GBH.
"I mean man, how long have you got, you know? I've got a list longer than your arm and about a hundred other people's arms put together, you know what I mean? [It's] a tough one. I'm really [into] Siege from Boston, [they were] one of the big ones for me. Napalm wouldn't sound the way it does probably, you know, if not for Siege. Bands like S.O.B. from Japan, Systematic Death also from Japan, GBH from Birmingham actually, from the UK. Bands like Anti-Cimex, Mob 47, Kaaos from Finland. You know, a lot of Scandinavian stuff, a lot of US stuff.
"Yeah, I mean it's… you know, oh who else Deep Wound and the J. Mascis band Dinosaur Jr. and Infest… yeah I mean, there's tons of stuff. There's absolutely tons and tons of stuff. I do like the New York hardcore stuff, but it wasn't… there are there are other parts of hardcore that had a more of a direct influence on Napalm Death."
Napalm Death will livestream their March 18 show at The Underworld in London, England. Tickets are available here.
