Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl recently appeared as a guest on the new episode of Hot Ones, in which he agreed that he is not good enough to play drums in Rush and compared playing techniques.
Hot Ones is a Youtube talk show hosted by Sean Evans, in which Evans and his celebrity guests eat ten chicken wings, each prepared with a more spicy hot sauce. It progresses in the standard interview format, and after each wing, Sean asks his guest a new question. If the guests can finish all ten wings, they can talk about their upcoming projects.
The show has been airing since 2015 and has become popular in the United States. As the host stated at the show’s beginning, Dave Grohl was one of the most requested guests by the fans. During the show, the rocker reflected on many issues from his personal life and career in music. When he started to compare two barbecue chefs, the host made an interesting connection between chefs and drummers.
Evans talked about the drummers with technical virtuosity and the others who play more randomly. Dave Grohl agreed with this distinction and said that some drummers use it as an excuse to cover their inadequacy. They say they are ‘feel drummers’ to hide their inability to play technically. Then, Grohl talked about his drumming skills and agreed that he couldn’t play in Rush because he is not good enough.
Dave Grohl’s statements on why he couldn’t play in Rush:
“That’s every drummer’s best excuse. ‘I’m a feel drummer!’ That’s just because they don’t know how to do the fancy sh*t. That’s me, like, ‘No man, I’m a disco drummer.’ Because I’m not f*cking good enough to play Rush. That’s basically what it is.”
