Zakk Wylde has hardly kept his love of Pantera and his late friend Dimebag Darrell to himself over the years. Now in a new interview with Metal Hammer, Wylde recalls meeting Darrell for the first time at the Monsters Of Rock festival in 1994 when Wylde was still playing with Pride & Glory, and seeing Pantera utterly destructive set.
"Dime had a massive heart and just loved seeing everybody have a good time. He was like Santa Claus with a pink beard; I think about him all the time. First time I met Dime was at Donington when I was with Pride & Glory. Pantera's set was amazing, the power they had was unbelievable, and we became buddies after that show. We talked all the time."
Check out Pantera's full set below if you've never seen it. It's worth noting that today is the 30th anniversary of Vulgar Display Of Power, which has been celebrated (so far) with an extensive editorial by our own Jillian Drachman and a most excellent cover by Spirit Adrift.
As for Wylde and Dimebag, Wylde recently floated the idea of potentially doing a signature Dimebag guitar with his Wylde Audio company.
